Digital Billboard Regional Assets – JCDecaux
JCDecaux, Australia’s leading out of home company reached out to the UAVISUALS team to solve a unique problem using drones and new technology. With approximately 2.5M (abs.gov.au) people living in Regional Queensland, there are plenty of opportunities for advertisers to use these sites to their advantage. Due to the tyranny of distance, our objective was to bring the sites to their clients, visually! PROJECT: In June 2019 UAVISUALS and JCDecaux began an epic journey across Regional Queensland to tell a story about their regional digital Billboards. The project was to not only ‘hero’ the site but to educate the market about the audience, showing the specific businesses, location and surrounding thriving economies. The tour started in the Gold Coast, then onto Maryborough, Bundaberg, Gladstone, Rockhampton, Mackay, Townsville, and finally with the tour ending in tropical Cairns. From the sand to the sugar cane and everything in between, this was truly one epic journey with a fantastic outcome for all. We had a three-man crew consisting of an experienced drone pilot, a second drone operator/wrangler and also a camera operator / DOP (director of photography). The shoot provided plenty of challenges and obstacles. We used some advanced film techniques such as aerial drone hyperlapse and high-speed car chases to capture the thrill and excitement of the experience. OLEXOCRUMB® Crumb rubber – Recycling tyres into roads
Puma Bitumen OLEXOCRUMB®– Turning recycled tyres into roads We love seeing the energy sector innovating sustainable solutions! UAVISUALS were honored to work on a revolutionary initiative by Puma Energy and Boral, – OLEXOCRUMB®, turning recycled tyres into roads! 56 million passenger tyres are ditched in Australia every year. That’s equivalent to 2 tyres per Australian, per year. With the use of CRMB (Crumb Rubber, Modified Bitumen), Puma Bitumen will be recycling over 25 thousand equivalent passenger tyre units per week. Not only is this solution more sustainable, but it also results in a more elastic and durable product. Puma Energy has successfully demonstrated the new OLEXOCRUMB® (a crumb rubber binder) on a public road for the first time! The trial was organised by Transport for Victoria and following this initial success, Puma Energy will use the binder in Victoria, Queensland and later New South Wales. https://youtu.be/nctcgy-eXyk With its global supply, logistics, and technical capabilities, Puma Bitumen (a subsidiary of Puma Energy) not only sources high-quality bitumen but also manufactures and supplies a full range of products across the world. Crumb rubber (OLEXOCRUMB®) OLEXOCRUMB was specifically formulated to comply with Australian road binder specifications. In a world that needs a stronger focus on recyclable materials, Puma Bitumen has come up with a solution for repurposing old tyres in an eco-friendly way to create more durable roads. It’s called ‘crumb rubber modified bitumen (CRMB)’ and it is made using Australian-sourced, end of life tyres. For more info on the product visit roads online. Wesley Place 130 Lonsdale St – Charter Hall
Melbourne’s newest landmark Wesley Place, is Melbourne’s newest CBD landmark, a transformative commercial precinct in the heart of the city. The city’s newest building, developed by Charter Hall, will offer a multitude of experiences transforming the way people work, connect and socialise. Charter Hall regional development director Simon Stockfeld said the 130 Lonsdale office tower was designed to accentuate and celebrate the Wesley Church spire and the area’s history. “One example of this is the historic Manse building, which has been incorporated into the design of the 130 Lonsdale lobby to enable the new and old to work seamlessly together,” Stockfeld said. The $20 million restoration project formed an important part of the development of the 1.1-hectare precinct. Landowner, the Uniting Church of Australia, have been using the site for 200 years. VISUAL SOLUTIONS: UAVISUALS was engaged by Melbourne’s leading marketing and PR agency Keep Left, to help bring the precinct to life. Shooting at this location required extensive planning & preparation including traffic & pedestrian management. We were able to get unique angles and elevated shots using our drones. Being seasoned drone operators, we had the skills, equipment, and experience that allowed us to shoot in what would usually be a difficult location both technically and geographically. As well as the initial challenge of shooting in the CBD, the operation was completed whilst in-between Melbourne’s two extreme COVID lockdown restriction measures. Whilst this posed difficulties in the planning stages, such as acquiring permits and speaking to the relevant councils, the actual filming day was made smoother due to the limited foot traffic in the city. Deakin Melbourne Boomers – Drone FPV Flythrough
Deakin Melbourne Boomers – Drone FPV Flythrough PROJECT: The Deakin Melbourne Boomers relocated their home venue from State Basketball Centre to the Melbourne Sports Centres – Parkville in October 2021 – a return to the venue where the Boomers won their first Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) championship in 2011! The Boomers reached out to UAVISUALS and were tasked to create a ‘flythrough video’ from the outside of the center and into the courts which would be central to showing the new venue location and a creative that would become central to their game-day experience. The inspiration included showing how women’s sport is elite and has legacy and history. UAVISUALS bought into this purpose and used a unique & highly specialised drone & application called ‘FPV’ or first-person view to create this highly sought after shot (as made famous from the ‘Bowling ally one- take video’). As one of a handful of licensed FPV operators who can legally and skilfully conduct these types of operations, we were inspired by the challenge and opportunity. The overall execution, including the creative, is now central to the positioning of the Boomers and shown as the opening before all home games (including welcome to country). https://youtu.be/VV6whbWlIhc VISUAL SOLUTIONS: The brief was simple yet challenging and usually a common request, which we would use our standard drone to get the shots outside, inside separately, and then edit together with music over the top…- but not this time! We wanted to really wow the viewer with a one-shot, long take of a drone flight – going from outside and then into the stadium. ‘‘The inspiration was to show the venue in the manner that a fan attending comes into the Show Court. What Paul and Aaron created enabled this to be central to our fan engagement and game day experience – we wouldn’t be more pleased with the outcome.’– Tony Hallam, Chair – Deakin Melbourne Boomers There are many challenges associated with using drones & FPV, UAVISUALS hold a unique license (EVLOS) to conduct this & with safety first as a priority. BEHIND THE SCENES/ EXECUTION: There was a small window to complete this operation over the Christmas holiday period due to lower public traffic & sporting events. We had several recces with the FPV pilot and film crew to determine a safe flight path. As it was a ‘one shot one take’ scenario we could only fit 3 takes as we had to coordinate with the team, venue, and public access to the car park, however, our season pilot Sam Heeps nailed it in the first take Contacts: UAVISUALS – Drone Services Melbourne Boomers Melbourne Sports Centres Parkville
