Mobile Blackspot Program

Dept of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications.

PROJECT BACKGROUND

The Government (The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, and Communications) has committed $380 million to the Mobile Black Spot Programย to invest in telecommunications infrastructure to improve mobile coverage and competition across Australia.

The Program is supported by co-contributions from state and local governments, mobile network operators (Optus, Telstra, TPG Telecom Ltd (formerly Vodafone) and Field Solutions Group), businesses and local communities.

CHALLENGE

The challenge was to assist OPTUS to provide line of site links in the areas and also to assist the other contractors associated with the build in remote regions of WA. There were 50 sites to inspect and provide LOS data for as a matter of urgency. We engaged two teams in the operation with our WA contractors assisting in the works.

SOLUTION

The operation was a success, the UAVISUALS Industrial team provided critical line-of-sight (LOS) data for 50 sites in remote Western Australia using drones, which was captured and delivered within a 14-day period, by far the quickest and most efficient the company has seen. We continue to work with various telco carriers on the Mobile Blackspot program.

The team also provided a detailed inspection on each tower, including a 3D model (Digital twin) of each asset to assist CPS Global & Optus in their design and build stages.
